The Beginning

Two weeks ago I took the plane to London. Quite rushed, when I think about it. And yet it feels like I've been here for ages.

Yes, you could have made the whole thing a little more relaxed. Looking for my stuff one day before departure, desperately repack the suitcase so I don't have to pay at the airport and then the panic that arose shortly before my flight left. But a little bit of stress and fear is part of it. Since I also managed to move into my dorm without any major problems, the result of the whole thing is quite alright considering the chaos.
Now, as I sat in my sister's old room on this one Saturday, trying to cram clothes into tiny gaps in my suitcase, that was exactly my only thought: how can I take my entire closet with me? Emotional support was provided by one of my best friends Emily, who spontaneously stayed overnight. At some point Marius took over. And that was necessary, because packmaster mom was in Lüneburg. She would have been proud of me, I filled every cavity, used every space effectively. And at the end of the day it was done. 50 kilos, distributed over two suitcases and a backpack, were now to accompany me to Great Britain.
You could hardly talk of sleep, because my buddy Justin had to drive me to the airport at 3:30 in the morning. A quick hug, a few tears, and I put on my mask and headed for my gate. With a wink, the employee at baggage claim ignored my kilo overweight and with that, the first hurdle was also cleared.
I can hardly remember the flight, nor exactly how I got to the dorm. The first thing I saw when I left King's Cross Station was the "German Gymnasium". What an irony.
Google Maps, currently my life insurance, then guided me to my future home. The people were super nice too, even carrying my suitcases up two flights of stairs to my room (I still feel sorry for the helper to this day). Once my bed was made, closet arranged, bathroom inspected and bang, the move was also done.
At the moment I spend a lot of time with four girls, sometimes as a group, sometimes alone. I met Serena directly on my first day, she was sitting in the lobby of the dorm and I asked her very clumsily if she wanted to go out for lunch. To this day she is one of the sweetest people I have met here so far. Zoya lives in the room next to me and is also doing a year abroad, she is from the US. Laurie lives two floors above us and is like a little sister. The same goes for Eve, who moved to London from France for her entire studies.
And that's almost it for the first few days. What else happened, you can read in the next blog!
